Top Ten EDM Tracks Of 2013 Thus Far
Just a quarter into 2013, and big tracks are already being dropped left and right from a diverse range of artists. It’s safe to say that 2013 is already off to an amazing start with what we have heard so far.
With that in mind, I’ve carefully selected ten tracks I feel have left a deep impression on the electronic music scene due to their spellbinding sound. When they get dropped on the dance floor, they have a transformative power that takes hold of the crowd instantly, transporting them to a place unlike any other. Some might call that utopia.
That’s not to say songs that aren’t on the list aren’t good. If anything, there are too many good ones to list. But these are the ones I feel are the best of the best. So let’s get to it!
10. Two Way Street (Aeroplane Remix) – Kimbra
Aeroplane’s remix adds a remarkable amount of depth and excitement to the track’s beat, giving Kimbra’s alluring voice the support it deserves. In combination, the two elements create a relaxing vibe that anyone can easily groove off of.
9. Requiem – Mark Sixma
W&W have been dropping this track into their sets lately, and for good reason. The dark foreboding atmosphere it conjures with its booming opera singing in the background makes you feel like you are witnessing two unearthly, sword-wielding rivals duke it out in a duel for world domination. Epic is the only fitting word for such a big track.
8. Overdose (feat. Medina) – Wolfgang Gartner
Wolfgang is back at it again with his eclectically catchy dance beats that everyone is so fond of. This time around his music is graced with Danish’s singer Medina’s sultry lyrics about wanting to OD on “you” overlaid with a hopping electro beat that creates a smooth dance song. No one will tire of this any time soon.
7. Swoon – Tim Mason
To put simply, Swoon’s gliding synth beat slowly build up into a palpitating and joyful euphoria that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. It all reminds me of passionately wistful love. Certainly after a few listens, this track will leave you…swooning?
6. Symphonica – Nicky Romero
Nicky Romero has outdone himself with this one. How often do you get to hear a symphony of classical music interjected into a banging house track? This is a touch of class that definitely leaves a strong impression.
5. Wayfarer – Audien
If there ever were a theme song denoting victory, this would be it. Audien combines ethereal trance with hard-hitting house that culminates into one giant fountain of energy in the chorus. Enjoy it while you can, because the chorus doesn’t repeat, only leaving the listener one option: to hit replay.
4. Hold On – NERVO
The NERVO girls’ siren-like vocals suck you in instantly by hypnotizing your heart and soul. Once the track takes off with its pounding rush of winding synths, you’ll have no choice but to hold on and enjoy the ride.
3. Mammoth – Moguai, Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike
An electro house banger to the core, ‘Mammoth’ is by no means generic. Its creatively catchy sound, emulating the call of a mammoth, builds into a huge drop that levels dance floors everywhere.
2. This Is What It Feels Like (feat. Trevor Gunthrie) – Armin van Buuren
No one does it like Armin. The introductory sounds of piano create an immediate draw into this bittersweet tune. Trevor Gunthrie’s lyrics emphasize all the right parts of the track, between the insightful interlude and the enchanting chorus, the song leaves off on a hopeful note.
1. If I Lose Myself (Alesso Remix) – One Republic
Like the guys at Beatport said, Alesso’s remix overtook the number spot on Beatport Top 100. It took that spot upon its release, and entering the number should speak volumes as to how amazing this song is. Alesso’s remix adds an entirely new dynamic to it that makes it a timeless track.
Did I miss anything? Is there another track out there deserving of a spot among the top ten? Feel free to share your thoughts!
